Farscape cognoscente will know that the character of Rygel was voiced by Jonathan Hardy, a GREAT Australian actor. (Really, he’s like the Australian version of Sir John Gielgud, or something.) He is the guest of honor at the Tasmanian Sci-Fi convention, being held this weekend at Wrest Point, a suburb in Hobart, Tasmania. (Source: the The Mercury newspaper)
Fans have long noted the resemblance between Mr. Hardy and Rygel. Jonathan Hardy does Rygel so well that they seem almost like two sides of the same character. No comments
Boom! Comics has announced a new series, which is a retelling of Phillip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (Scifi fans will of course know that this is the book that the 1982 movie Blade Runner was based on. True scifi fans will have even read the book.) The series will consist of 24 issues, which tell the entire story using Dick’s original words.
Rockne O’Bannon will be writing some "back matter" for issue 4.
I must say that even though I am not a fan of comic books, the cover art for this series looks attractive. It’s the first time I’ve ever been able to say that about any comic book. The only thing disappointing about the preview pages is that the images seem awfully like the movie, and one would have hoped for something different and unique. No comments
It looks like Creation Entertainment will have another Farscape convention this year. This time they’ve moved to a different venue, the Marriott Los Angeles Airport. (Previous attendees who’ve grumbled about the difficulty of getting to Burbank for the past conventions may find this an improved state of affairs.) Guests that have been signed so far include Ben Browder, Claudia Black, David Franklin, Lani Tupu, Gigi Edgeley, Virginia Hey, and Paul Goddard. (Gosh, that’s almost the entire major cast!) The activities will include the usual fan video contest and a costume contest. I’m certain, too, that additional fan-created events will be scheduled, making this a perfect gathering for all Farscape fans.
AND Creation Entertainment is ALSO holding a Stargate convention at the same place on the same weekend.
For UK and EU fans, Ben Browder will be appearing next month at Collectormania, held the weekend of 5 – 10 June 2009. (Did I use the proper EU date format there?) The venue is the MK Dons Stadium: Milton Keynes. (Milton Keynes is approximately 45 miles west of London.) Looking at the guest list, it looks like several Star Trek luminaries will be there, and a couple of Stargate ones, as well. All in all, it looks like a great even for scifi fans in the UK and Europe. (I see no Doctor Who luminaries on the list, however.)
(For the intellectually curious, Milton Keynes has an interesting history as a successful 40-year-old example of modern urban planning. The stadium is brand spanking new, having been opened by the Queen only a couple of years ago. If you go, make sure you check out the concrete cows. As a cheesehead living in the dairy state, I can only bow my head in admiration at this artistic achievement. We have a lot of cows in our state, but nothing like this.)No comments
What gives?┬á He almost never appears at conventions, and I’m not aware of any project of his that would need publicizing.
Anyway, this is very cool news for Farscape fans.No comments
